Sianie = Bulgarian for “ Brightness”
Theatre SIANIE is the only Bulgarian Christian puppet theatre. It was founded in 1995 by Rosica Gyumlieva. Using an arm rod and a special type of hand puppets, SIANIE produces:
- traditional Bulgarian,
- secular ( e.g. Brothers Grimm fairy tales ),
- moral plays
- plays with Christian content- “The Good Samaritan”, “The Prodigal Son”…..
SIANIE has plays in different languages:
- The Good Samaritan - English, Greek, German
- The Three Little Pigs - English, Greek, German
- The Prodigal Son - English
- The Champion and The Golden Apple - English
- The Enourmous Turnip - English, Greek
- Christmas Adventures - Greek
Since 1995 theatre SIANIE has produced more then 30 plays and has performed for about 250,000 people both children and adults from all over Bulgaria and abroad at schools, kindergartens, Churches, orphanages and homes for developmentally disabled children.
- In the summer of 1999 and 2000 has participated in International Festival in Doorn – Holland, sponsored by the EC. The plays were received with vivid interest, cordial appreciation, tears, … and even a standing ovation.
- In August 2000 performed at International Christian Puppetry Festival Kankakee– USA. SIANIE won first place in the “Open Skit Competition”. They were on tour at 3 of the States.
- In July 2004 Sianie won first place in the"Open Creative Ministry" I-Fest, Kankakee,IL- USA.
- Since 2000 every year theatre Sianie is invited for tours in Greece. We have had performances in Thessaloniki ,Athens and all over Greece. We have given workshops at summer camps as well. For two years we performed at KIDS GAMES organized by Scripture Union. We have been given a statuette as a reward from Greek Christian Artists Association.
